With their 35-20 loss to the Pekin Panthers Friday evening in Packwood, the Lone Tree Lion football team (4-3 overall; 3-2 Class A District 6) was eliminated from contention for a district championship. However, the Lions are in great position for a return trip to the playoffs, winning four of their first seven games this season. The squad has an opportunity to achieve something only one other Lone Tree football team has done this Friday in the Lions ‘senior night game versus the Danville Bears (2-4 overall). With a win over the Bears, the Lions will finish the regular season undefeated at home for just the second time since Lone Tree-Highland football split in 2006.
Senior Jared Hudson achieved 1,000 yards rushing for a third straight season last Friday in Packwood, running for 124 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to the Panthers. He now has 1,079 yards and 16 touchdowns during the 2015 campaign. His career varsity rushing yardage is now at 3,452 yards and 48 rushing touchdowns.
Hudson can hit some significant career milestones with a good performance Friday versus the Bears. He is 48 rushing yards away from 3500 yards for his career, he is two rushing touchdowns away from 50, and he can set a career high in rushing yards in one season with 136 yards rushing versus Danville.
Kickoff between the Lions and Bears is set for 7 p.m. at Lone Tree High School.
