The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team rallied to stave off elimination Tuesday night in the first round of the River Valley Conference tournament.
. Mid-Prairie traveled to North Cedar for a triangular matchup with the Knights and the Durant Wildcats. Mid-Prairie opened the night with a loss to North Cedar in straight sets 12-21 and 16-21. In that match the Hawks were led by Jaedynn Evans with seven kills, Clarice Murphy with 12 assists and Amanda Miller with seven digs.
With their tournament lives on the line the Golden Hawks responded with an upset win over the Durant Wildcats. The Golden Hawks had faced the Wildcats twice during the regular season, dropping both contests, but Tuesday would be a different story.
The Golden Hawks scored the win in three games, by scores of 18-21, 21-13 and 15-13. Mid-Prairie was led in the match against Durant by Jaedynn Evans with 14 kills, Clarice Murphy with 22 assists and four players in double figure digs, including Evans with 15, Amanda Miller with 14 and Murphy and Emily Cayton with 10 each. Following their split Tuesday night Mid-Prairie is now 15-14 for the year and they advance to the second round of the River Valley Conference tournament to be played Thursday night against a team to still be determined.
