The last undefeated in the KCII coverage area is located in Winfield. The No. 10 Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (6-0 overall; 4-0 Class A District 6) continued their stellar 2015 season with a 46-14 victory over the New London Tigers (2-4 overall).
Senior Kolt Rossiter had another great game throwing the football, completing 13 of his 26 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns. Seven of Rossister’s completions went to his senior Garrett Baker, who amassed 194 yards and three touchdowns
Head coach Scott McCarty said the two seniors helped set a pair of school records. “Garrett Baker broke and reset the school record (Friday night) for receiving touchdowns.” McCarty said, “It was set last year by Keaton Pallistor and this year Garrett broke it, scoring his seventh receiving touchdown of the year.”
McCarty also said the duo hooked up for a 99-yard touchdown reception in the game, setting the school record for the longest passing touchdown.
The Wolves head football coach also commended his defense on another stellar performance, allowing two fourth quarter touchdowns after having the game in hand. Tackling was a strength in the Wolves’ victory, having six players record five or more solo tackles.
Senior linebacker Sam Jennings led W-MU with eight solo tackles, including one tackle for loss. Baker had seven solo tackles and recovered a fumble. Senior Warren Krieger-Coble recorded six tackles, two of them for loss. Senior Matthew Niebuhr, senior Kolt Rossiter, and junior Bryce Robinson all made five solo tackles a piece.
Winfield-Mount Union improved to 6-0 on the season, surpassing their win total from a season ago. The Wolves renew their long time rivalry with Henry County rival the WACO Warriors (3-3 overall; 3-1 Class A District 6). WACO suffered their first district loss of the season last Friday, falling 36-17 to the Lone Tree Lions (4-2 overall; 3-1 Class A District 6).
