Louisa County Conservation joined forces recently with Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge staff to host the first ever Monarch migration program in Louisa County. The event was an effort to catch and tag the butterflies as they begin their annual migration to a warmer climate for the winter.

Participants managed to tag 18 monarch butterflies near the Inlet Tubes at Port Louisa before the Monarchs continued their journey to Mexico. For more information on getting involved with other activities, you can call the Louisa County Conservation office at 319-523-8381.
