Overall average cash rents for corn and soybean acres in southeast Iowa has fallen over the last two years. In District 9, which covers Washington, Louisa, Henry, Keokuk, Jefferson, Des Moines, Lee, Van Buren, Davis, Wapello and Mahaska counties, the highest overall cash rent per tillable acre was $229 in 2013. According to Iowa State University, last year the average cost was $229 and according to this year’s survey the cost is $217 per acre. In Washington County, the overall average for typical rent for corn or soybeans per tillable acre is $276 this year, the highest in District 9. The average corn yield per acre from 2010 to 2014 was 154 and soybean yield was 51.
