The home opener for the Sigourney Savage volleyball team Monday (0-3 overall: 0-2 SICL) was nearly the first victory of the season for the squad. The Savages forced a five game match with the Hartwick-Ladora-Victor (HLV) Warriors, but fell short of win number one (16-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 12-15).
Several Savages had season best performances versus the Warriors. Senior Sierra Davis came up with 14 kills and 23 digs, both season highs. Junior Anna Ohland recorded a season best 12 kills. She entered the night with nine kills total on the year. Sophomore Leah Carter recorded a season-high 30 assists. She collected 14 assists a piece in losses to Pekin and Belle Plaine earlier this month.
The Savages continue South Iowa Cedar League play tomorrow evening, traveling to Colfax for a battle with the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks (2-1 overall; 0-1 SICL). Last season the Tigerhawks were a member of the Heart of Iowa Conference (2-1 overall; 1-1 SICL).
