Councilman Bob Shellmyer (center) has announced he is stepping down from the Washington City Council.
Washington city councilman Bob Shellmyer has submitted his letter of resignation from the council. He explains he is stepping down because his house has sold and they will be likely moving closer to family out of state. The resignation of the Ward 3 seat will take effect November 16th.
Looking back at his time on the council, he states he’s proud to have helped put the city’s finances in the black along with the other council members. Shellmyer added he’s also worked to bring the city’s sewer infrastructure to light and work towards a solution.
Petitions to be on the ballot for a city council position are due Thursday by 5 p.m. In addition to Shellmyer’s seat, an at-large seat held by Mark Kendall and the Ward 1 seat held by Bob Shepherd will be on the ballot.
The council meets tonight at 6 p.m. in regular session.
