It is officially game week for high school football teams around the state of Iowa, as the high school football season gets underway Friday night.

Mid-Prairie football coach Pete Cavanagh says he’s ready to get the season started. His team is coming off a 4-6 season and has some experienced players back. The Golden Hawk coach says the district this year will be very competitive, calling it perhaps, one of the most balanced in the state. He sees several teams being in competition for a postseason berth this year.

Mid-Prairie returns their top three tacklers from last season. The offensive side of the ball has experience as well, with quarterback Ryan Cortum returning along with four of their top five rushers from a year ago.

The Golden Hawks open the season at Durant on Friday night, they lost a tough one to the Wildcats last season, 7-6. You can hear the game live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com.
