Six days from now the Washington Demon football team will return to the field where their 2014 season ended. A 31-14 setback to the Pella Little Dutch in the Class 3A quartefinal round was the final memory of an 8-4 campaign for the Demons.
The Little Dutch went on to claim the Class 3A state championship, defeating Sioux City Heelan 38-17 in the title game in Cedar Falls. With 20 seniors returning from last year’s state title team, including all-state quarterback Noah Clayberg, the Demons are in for quite a week one test.
Washington head football coach Garrison Carter is welcoming the challenge, “We look at it as a tremendous opportunity,” Carter said, “One thing we have prided ourselves in here is we aren’t going to back down from anyone and we aren’t afraid of playing anybody.”
Several media outlets have Pella ranked as the preseason No. 1 team in Class 3A. Washington will line up against the defending state champs Friday evening. Live play-by-play coverage from Pella High School begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at a special time of 6 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
