In an effort to improve county roads and expedite services, Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius is hoping to add three or four employees to his staff. He explained at yesterday’s board of supervisors meeting that he currently has 22 on staff, while 30 would be ideal, but adding a few more would improve work in the county. Thorius added he is not asking for more money from the county, as his budget can sustain additional employees, due in part to the gas tax.

Supervisor chairman Jack Seward shared adding staff and creating another district based out of Washington may help with response times to road care.

Supervisor Abe Miller suggested using different methods on the road maintenance to make the department more efficient before adding staff.

The supervisors voted 3-2 to hold a work session before moving forward, the work session will be held Thursday at 8 a.m.
