A recent graduate of Sigourney Community Schools will continue her athletic career in two different sports. Savage graduate Jordan Carter recently agreed to play softball for the Marshalltown Community College Tigers, eight months after agreeing to play volleyball for the school.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has name Carter one of 22 Class 1A First Team All-State softball performers. She was the Savages’ primary pitcher this summer, throwing 188 of Sigourney’s 232.1 innings recorded, finishing with a record of 21-9. Her 1.97 earned run average and 124 strike outs this season were second best in conference. She was just as effective at the plate, leading the SICL in slugging percentage (.919), recorded the most doubles (30), was second in the conference in batting average (.570), and ranked third in on base percentage (.590).
On the volleyball court, Carter finished as the South Iowa Cedar Conference leader in kills (344) and aces (61), and finished second in the conference in digs (231). Her efforts helped earn her multiple postseason accolades, including first team all-conference and third team all-district selections.
Carter will play two of the three women’s sports Marshalltown Community College offers. The Tigers will look to improve on a 3-44 softball record, and an 18-27 volleyball record.
