Every four years the Iowa Department of Transportation releases updated traffic counts for the cities and counties across Iowa. According to Ed Raber, director of the Washington Economic Development Group, the data gathered can be helpful for business planning and may aid local and state government to make decisions regarding maintenance, construction, and speed limits.
According to the annual average daily traffic counts in 2014, the City of Washington’s busiest stretch of road with approximately 9,600 vehicles using it daily is Washington Street, or Highway 92, between South 11th Avenue and South 13th Avenue. In 2006, Washington’s busiest section of road was Highway 92 by Sunset Park.
Riverside has approximately 19,000 vehicles go by using Highway 218 daily and 7,100 vehicles on Highway 22 between Sycamore Street and St. Mary’s Street.
