Two members of the Sigourney Savage baseball team received high honors from the coaches of their conference. Savage senior Colby Kerkove and junior Peyton Crawford earned first team all-conference honors as voted on by the coaches of the South Iowa Cedar League (SICL).
Kerkove was selected to the squad as an utility player. He finished second on the team in a number of offensive categories including: batting average (.359), slugging percentage (.565), total hits (33), home runs (5), runs batted in (36), and doubles (4).
Crawford, KCII’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week on June 17, was selected to the team as an outfielder. He led the Savages in nearly every offensive category this season including: batting average (.463), slugging percentage (.793), on base percentage (.596), total hits (38), runs scored (37), home runs (6), runs batted in (37), doubles (7), and stolen bases (25). He also pitched the most innings this season for Sigourney (55.2), earning a 5-4 record, and posting a team best earned run average of 2.39. Crawford’s 107 strikeouts topped the conference this past year.
Junior Jordan Albert has been recognized by the SICL coaches as a second team pitcher. Senior Cole Streigle is an honorable mention.
The Savages finished the 2015 season 11-17 overall, finishing tied for seventh in conference standings with Belle Plaine with a 9-11 conference record.
