The offensive surge the Washington Demon (6-17 overall) baseball team found in Centerville last week continued Monday evening at Dick Sojka Memorial Field. The Demons welcomed the Clear Creek Amana Clippers (18-18 overall) to Washington for a non-conference tilt. After posting three runs combined through four innings, Clear Creek Amana and Washington racked up 19 runs during the final two innings as the Clippers edged the Demons, 13-9.

Head coach Nathan Miller has been pleased with his team’s recent approach at the plate, “Our last four games offensively have been what we are striving for, especially the last three,” Miller said, “We had 31 hits against Centerville and we had 11 tonight. ”

The explosion of offense started in the top of the fifth inning when the Clippers led 2-1. Five more runs scored in the fifth inning, on four hits and a walk, extending the Clipper lead to 7-1. Washington received RBI singles from Tanner Renoux and Dakota Kron, and an RBI ground out from Gabe Greiner, helped cut the lead to 7-4.

Five more runs scored in the ensuing half inning for the Clippers, enhancing their advantage to 12-4. The Demons answered with a two out rally in the bottom of the inning. Renoux hit a bases clearing double, scoring three more runs and dropping the deficit to 12-7.

Clear Creek Amana scored a final run in the top of the seventh, pushing their lead to 13-7. Sophomore Bryce Craff hit an RBI single for Washington, and score another run in the final inning, but the Demons fell short 13-9.

Washington drops their overall record to 6-17. The Demons play their final regular season baseball game tonight, hosting the Solon Spartans (21-15 overall). First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. at Dick Sojka Memorial Field.
