The lone senior of this year’s Washington Demon baseball team (5-15 overall) will be recognized during the team’s final home game tonight. Blake Weidman will play his final game on Dick Sojka Memorial Field tonight as the Demons host the Oskaloosa Indians (16-6 overall) in a non-conference battle.
Weidman, the Demons primary third baseman and pitcher, is set to continue his baseball career next season at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a Division II program competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He leads the Demons in batting average (.400), total hits (24), doubles (7), and is tied with sophomore Michael Gier for the team lead in runs scored (13), and runs batted in (13).
The Demons have struggled in Weidman’s final season, losing their last seven contests and 13 of their last 15 games.
The Indians began the season winning their first seven games, and have posted an overall record of 16-6 heading into the final week of the regular season.
