A Sigourney Savage (8-15 overall) baseball pitcher is one strikeout away from a season and career milestone. Junior Peyton Crawford enters the final week of the regular season with 99 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched this season.

Crawford’s career strikeout total sits at 199, recording a team-high 68 strikeouts last season, 24 strikeouts his freshman season, and fanned eight batters as an eighth grader. The soon to be senior has made nine apperances on the mound so far this season, recording 10 or more strikeouts in six of those starts and three outings fanning 15 or more batters. The Savages are 4-2 this season when Crawford strikes out 10 or more batters.

Crawford was named the Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week on June 17 after striking out 16 of 18 batters in an 11-1 victory over the Tri County Thornberg Trojans on June 10. Against Lynnville-Sully on June 19, he threw a complete game no hitter, striking out 15 batters and falling one walk short of a perfect game in the victory.

Crawford and the Savages have three games scheduled this week, hosting the Iowa Valley Tigers (13-4 overall) on Monday, visiting English Valleys Bears (11-7 overall) on Wednesday, and wrapping up the regular season on Friday at home versus the Keota Eagles (7-12 overall).
