When postseason play begins in the Class 1A District 9 bracket, four KCII area baseball teams will begin their road to the state tournament in Lone Tree. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) released the postseason pairings for Class 1A and 2A, and the Lions are hosting two district playoff games at Lone Tree High School on July 14.

The district doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. with the Iowa Mennonite School (3-14 overall) squaring off against Washington County and Southeast Iowa Super Conference North rival the Highland Huskies (12-7 overall). The Huskies swept the season series between the ball clubs, winning 18-4 on June 4 in Riverside and 2-1 June 23 in Kalona.

The night cap features the Lone Tree Lions (13-7 overall) squaring off against South Iowa Cedar League member the Sigourney Savages in their postseason opener. The two teams haven’t met during the regular season.

The other side of the Class 1A District 9 bracket has the Keota Eagles (7-12 overall) hosting the second set of postseason doubleheaders in the bracket. The top seeded Pekin Panthers (11-3 overall) will open the pair of district games versus the Tri County Thronberg Trojans (3-17 overall) of the South Iowa Cedar League. Keota hosts the second game of the doubleheader against conference foe the English Valleys Bears (11-7 overall). The Bears swept the season series with the Eagles, winning 15-0 on May 28 in North English and 7-3 on June 19 in Keota.

The Class 1A District 9 championship game is scheduled for July 18 at 7 p.m. at Lone Tree High School.
