Even though its future son won’t be born for another 218 years, Riverside had plenty to celebrate this past weekend. The official future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk hosted the 31st annual Trek Fest Friday and Saturday. There was stargazing with amateur astronomers, a Star Trek themed scavenger hunt and a costume contest, where Riverside residents and out-of-town Trekkies showed up as characters from the television series and other Sci-Fi universes.
A crowd turned out for the Star Trek movie that was screened in Hall Park prior to the fireworks display that capped off this year’s festival.
