The 31st annual Trek Fest begins this evening. The event in Riverside, the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk, gets underway when the carnival, beer garden and food booths open at 5 p.m.
The event is organized by the Riverside Area Community Club. President of the club, Ken McCracken, says those who attend tonight should check out the Trek Trivia Contest, the movie in the park and sky-watching with the Cedar Amateur Astronomers. He shares the sky gazing is being held behind Riverside Elementary School, which he says used to be the location of an observatory and provides the perfect conditions for the event.
