Two KCII local softball squads are teaming up for a special cause tonight. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team (17-7 overall) welcome the Washington Demons (2-17 overall) to Kalona for a non-conference doubleheader.
The two teams will use the pair of games as a fundraiser for Special Olympics of Iowa. Mid-Prairie Community Schools has been selling shirts for the game with all the proceeds going to the organization for cover the cost of uniforms and supplies for their summer ball teams. Donations for Special Olympics of Iowa will also be accepted during the games. Members from several different Special Olympics ball teams will be at the diamond tonight in Kalona, and they will play a brief scrimmage in between games tonight.
The Golden Hawks are starting to look in mid-season form, winning their last seven games and eight of their last nine contest. Mid-Prairie swept the Tipton Tigers in a River Valley Conference bout on Monday in Kalona, shutting out the Tigers 10-0 and 12-0.
Washington enters tonight 2-19 overall, dropping a pair of Southeast Conference games to the Mount Pleasant Panthers 13-4 and 15-1 on Tuesday.
