An EF-1 tornado touched ground near Wayland in Washington County Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, it’s peak wind speeds were 100 miles per hour and it was on the ground for 1.4 miles. The tornado northwest of Wayland was 75 yards wide and damage was mainly to a farm outbuilding.

Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk Counties Emergency Management Coordinator, tells KCII News that two turkey buildings near Wayland had extensive damage. The owners had to move approximately 5,000 turkeys as a result.

Also, an EF1 tornado was on the ground for 3.5 miles south of Eddyville Saturday night.

Severe storms rolled across Iowa, with quarter sized hail in some locations. During the storm, portions of Mt. Pleasant lost power for nearly two hours and trees fell.

At a campground near Palo, in Linn County, 42-year-old Rebecca McCarthy died after being struck by lightning. More thunderstorms are expected in the KCII-listening area today, listen to KCII for weather updates.
