The newest rankings released from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has a KCII area softball team as the top team in Class 2A. The Highland Huskies (12-2 overall), who were ranked third in last weeks poll, moved all the way up to the top spot this week.
The Huskies have won seven games in row, and have held their opponents to one run or less in six of their last seven outings. Highland’s last loss came on June 6, a 7-0 setback to the No. 2 Solon Spartans of Class 3A.
The Huskies avenged their only conference loss of the season on Thursday night, defeating the Columbus Wildcats (7-5 overall) 6-1 at Highland High School.
The Huskies’ first game as the top team in Class 2A is set for tonight, hosting the Lone Tree Lions (4-13 overall) at 6:30 p.m.
