Late inning offense is becoming a common thing for the Mid-Prairie softball team this week. As you heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com., the Golden Hawks hosted a pair of River Valley Conference doubleheaders versus the Wilton Beavers (10-11 overall). Mid-Prairie had to overcome a two-run defect in both games, winning the duo by 6-4 identical scores.
The Golden Hawks fell into a 2-0 hole in game one before a four run fifth inning, highlighted by a Chelsea Kral two run home run, gave Mid-Prairie a 4-2 advantage. The Beavers tied the game on back to back solo home runs in the top of the sixth inning before Mid-Prairie responded two more runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 6-4 lead. A one-two-three top of the seventh gave Mid-Prairie the game one victory.
In game two, the Golden Hawks jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning and held it until the top of the fourth inning. A two-run fourth frame and a one-run fifth inning helped Wilton regain a two run advantage 4-2. Heads up base running in the sixth helped Mid-Prairie post four runs in the sixth inning, and another quick top of the seventh helped the Golden Hawks take game two 6-4.
Junior Emma Troyner earned two wins on the mound for the Golden Hawks, pitching nine innings between the two games. She fanned twelve batters, eight from her game one start.
Mid-Prairie softball coach Kara Beatty said she has seen her team produce a lot of offense in the later innings, “We have a lot of two out rallies,” Beatty said, “We did this last night, and the day before. My blood pressure is sky high when we do this, lets not wait around so much.”
The victories improve Mid-Prairie to 15-7 overall, pushing their current winning streak to five games. The softball team returns to the field on Monday, hosting the Tipton Tigers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.
