Early Wednesday morning, a pedestrian was struck by a car in Wellman. Justin Wayne Milam of West Chester was the driver involved in the accident. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office preliminary report states the vehicle was traveling southbound on 6th Street when it struck the woman walking northbound shortly after 5 a.m. at the intersection with 1st Avenue.

She was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals. The name and condition of the woman hit by the car has not been released at this time and the accident is under investigation.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Washington County Ambulance, Wellman Rescue, Wellman Fire Department and Wellman QRS responded to the scene.
