A bicycling event to benefit cancer research will occur next month in Washington County. The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved the race route for the Rock ‘N’ Ride at their meeting Tuesday morning. Cyclists will start at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Washington, then pedal up Riverside Road to Riverside and return the same way. David Friese who is helping organize the event says the route is about 18 miles each way and there will be support people along the way so participants can go as little or as far as they’d like.

The Rock ‘N’ Ride will include live music, food, children’s activities and more and all funds raised will go to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Friese explains the inspirations for the event are Karen Van Osdol and his late wife, Karen Friese, who passed away after battling cancer. For more information listen to today’s Washington Page.
