Wet field conditions forced the Washington Demon baseball team (3-4 overall; 2-2 Southeast) to take the night off Monday. The Demons step outside Southeast Conference play today, traveling to Pella for a clash versus the No. 2 Little Dutch (9-0 overall).
Washington returns to the diamond for the first time since dropping a pair of Southeast Conference battles against the Fairfield Trojans on Thursday at Dick Sojka Memorial Field. Senior Blake Weidman leads the Demons in six offensive categories including batting average (.478), slugging percentage (.652), on base percentage (.500), doubles (4), runs batted in (9) and total hits (11). Sophomore Michael Gier has pitched the most innings for the Demons so far this season. In 11 and two-thirds innings, Gier has allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits while walking five batters and striking out eight additional.
The Little Dutch are unblemished through the first nine games of the season, including winning 6-1 over Pella Christian on Monday evening. Pella has outscored their opponents 43-7 so far this season.
The Demons won the only meeting between the teams last season, a 4-3 triumph in Washington on June 10.
First pitch of tonight’s non-conference baseball game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Pella High School.
