A WACO seventh grader is the best middle school trap shooter in the state. The WACO Shooting Sports team was organized for the first time this spring, and includes students in seventh through 12th grade. Twelve students from the junior high boys, the junior high girls, and the high school boys’ teams made the trip to Cedar Falls this past weekend to compete in the State Trap Shooting Competition.
In his state competition debut, WACO’s Chase Newman placed first in the intermediate Entry Level category. Newman advanced past the first round by breaking 45 of 50 targets. In the finals, he broke 50 targets in a row to claim the state championship. Newman helped the Warriors’ junior high team to a ninth place finish out of the 51 team field.
WACO’s high school team placed 138th out of a 200 team field over the weekend, and two junior high girls’ represented the Warriors’ at the state competition.
