A clash of Class 3A ranked teams played in a doubleheader last night as the No. 7 ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team (8-5) played the No. 11th tanked West Liberty Comets (7-2). As you heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and on KCIIradio.com the Golden Hawks split the series, with Mid-Prairie winning the first game 9-6 and losing the second game 6-5.

In the first game each team scored one run in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1. After two scoreless innings, the Comets got the ball rolling in the fourth scoring three runs to make the score 4-1. The Golden Hawks were able to score a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2.

In the sixth inning, the Comets stretched their lead as they ran in two more to make the score 6-2 in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Mid-Prairie woke up out of their slump rallying and scoring seven runs to take the lead 9-6. No one scored in the seventh with Mid-Prairie taking the victory with the winning pitcher being Emma Troyer, her fourth win of the year.

In the second game the scoring went back and forth throughout the game. Entering the top of the seventh Mid-Prairie had a one run lead, 5-4. The Comets scored two runs thanks in large part to an error in the infield. The Golden Hawks then trailed in one run and lost in the bottom of the seventh, 6-5.

Mid-Prairie will stay home as they take on the Clear Creek Amana Clippers (6-6) in a non-conference match up. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Kalona.
