The stout opening season schedule continued Monday evening for the Washington Demon softball team  (1-9 overall; 0-6 Southeast). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Joyce Park in Keokuk for a Southeast Conference doubleheader clash versus the No. 15 Chiefs (8-3 overall; 3-1 Southeast).

The Demons combined to score three runs on 10 hits in both games, falling 11-2 and 8-1 to the Chiefs. Freshman Megan Mitchell shined for Washington at the plate, recording three hits and driving in two of the Demons’ three runs on the evening. Senior Kolbi Breard was the only other Demon to collect multiple hits, connecting on back to back singles in the game 1 loss.

Since opening the season with 15 runs scored against the Columbus Wildcats, the Demons have scored 13 combined runs over the last nine games. Six of Washington’s nine losses this season have come against teams ranked in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, including conference foes the Fairfield Trojans and the Chiefs.

Washington hits the road this evening for a pair of non-conference battles against the Oskaloosa Indians. Live play-by-play coverage of game one begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5 p.m. on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com.
