The Washington County Board of Supervisors recently received a letter from the Iowa Drainage District Association requesting assistance in funding the legal defense case filed against counties by the Des Moines Waterworks. Supervisor chairman Jack Seward Des Moines Waterworks is trying to expand the Department of Natural Resources’ definition of a point source for pollution.

Due to the possible statewide implications the case will have the association is seeking help in funding their defense. Jacob Thorius, Washington County engineer, stated that this sort of funding has happened before when Washington County had a lawsuit with the railroads regarding cost and replacement. Thorius added most counties did help in the Washington County case.

The Iowa Drainage District Association is requesting $5,000 for three years, for a total of $15,000. The board has not yet taken action on the item.
