Here are the results so far from the final day of the Iowa Girls and Boys State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines.
4 p.m. update:
The Pekin Panthers boys’ 4×100 meter squad finished in second place in the Class 1A, clocking a time of 44.66 seconds.
The Mid-Prairie girls’ 4×100 meter competed in the finals of the Class 2A field. Their time of 51.36 seconds is the fifth best in the state.
Mid-Prairie freshman Anna Hostetler has made her way to the podium in the Class 2A 1500 meter run. Her time of 4:56.02 placed her eighth in the state.
2:30 p.m. update:
Pekin junior Gwynne Wright continues to collect medals, this time in the Class 1A girls 1500 meter run. Her time of 4:57.22 was the second best finish in the state. Pekin has taken the lead in the Class 1A team competition, earning 57 points so far.
2 p.m. update:
Two KCII area athletes competed in the finals of the Class 1A 200 meter dash. WACO’s Bryce Achen claimed third place, clocking a time of 22.81 seconds. Winfield-Mount Union junior Garrett Baker posted a time of 23.28 seconds, the sixth best time in the field.
Highland junior Keiffer Sexton ended his track season as a medalist in the Class 1A 1600 meter run. Sexton’s time of 4:35.6 was the fourth best finish in the state. Highland has accumulated 11 team points, tied for 19th in the Class 1A team competition.
Winfield-Mount Union sophomore Gavin Bence finished in the top 10 in the Class 1A 1600 meter run. Bence’s mile run of 4:39.34 was the ninth best finish in the field, less than two-tenths of a second away from earning a medal.
1:30 p.m. update:
Washington senior Jacob Hennigan has finished his high school athletic career competing in the finals of the Class 3A 110 meter hurdles. His time of 15.37 seconds placed him sixth in the state. Washington finished the state track meet with 11 points.
12:50 p.m. update:
Washington senior Macy Marek has completed her track career among the top sprinters in Class 3A. Marek’s 100 meter dash time of 13.15 seconds places her third in the state. She earns six points for the Demons in the Class 3A competition, tying them for 22nd place.
12:15 p.m. update:
The Washington Demons boys’ shuttle hurdle team competed in the finals of the Class 3A field. The group of Jacob Hennigan, Alex Gonzalez, Caleb Bex, and Gage Redlinger clocked a time of 1:00.33, the seventh best finish in the state. Washington has scored eight team points, tied for 18th place in the Class 3A team competition.
10:45 a.m. update:
In the final track event of his high school career, WACO senior Braden Blake posted a top five finish in the Class 1A 800 meter run. Blake clocked a time of 2:01.86, placing fourth in the state. His time tied the school’s record set back in 1981. WACO scored five team points off Blake’s performance.
10 a.m. update:
Another Pekin Panther girls’ track athlete is a state champion in Class 1A. Junior Gwynne Wright’s run of 800 meter run 2:16.86 tops the field by nearly two seconds. Pekin sits second overall in the Class 1A team standings with 45 points.
The Washington girls’ sprint medley team was disqualified from the Class 3A competition. The team included Makenzie Marek, Amber Salow, Macy Marek, and Morgan Kimball.
9:40 a.m. update:
The Wapello Arrows sprint medley team has competed in the Class 2A field. The group of Karlee Carey, Alexis Talott, Tiffany Parsons, and Aryka Parsons clocked a time of 1:55.39 was the 19th best finish in the state.
The Lone Tree Lion girls sprint medley team has completed the Class 1A race. The group of Madison Forbes, Elena Sieverding, Nattie Attig , and Paige Doehrmann posted a time of 1:58.35, placing 22nd.
