Angus, Belted Galloway, and Limousin are just a few of the different breeds of beef cattle found in Iowa. May is beef month, as Matthew Pemberton with the Washington County Cattleman’s Association, and director of membership procurement with the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, explains each year the governor proclaims the month to promote beef across Iowa.

Currently the Washington County Cattleman’s Association is hosting beef trivia on KCII Radio, with those getting the correct answers winning a $20 gift certificate for beef products. According to the Iowa Beef Industry Council, 70 percent of grill owners barbecue on the Fourth of July while 62 percent do so on Memorial Day.
