State legislators continue to work on budgets as they enter the 110th day of the 2015 session. According to State Representative Jarad Klein, individual budgets go through multiple phases before they’re eligible for debate.

He explains a budget starts in a subcommittee, and once it’s passed, it goes to an appropriations committee. After it’s passed by appropriations, it goes to the floor of the house. Klein adds it has to sit for a certain number of days before it moves on to the next step, giving legislators time to read it and provide input.

Today is the 110th calendar day of the session, the day per diem expenses for legislators ends per Iowa Code. Klein adds it’s possible they could adjourn in a few weeks.
