Entering the third week of the high school golf season, Washington’s girls squad has positioned themselves as one of the best teams in Iowa.

The Demons start the week with the lowest nine hole girls average in the entire state, regardless of class, with a median score of 181.5. The Demons’ average is nearly nine strokes better than the Carroll

A factor in the Demons’ lowest average has been the play of their top three golfers. Freshman Sarah Nacos is currently in a three way tie for the lowest nine hole score in the state, averaging 38 strokes per competition. Nacos has the best individual nine hole golf score this season, shooting a one-under 34 on April 16 against Burlington.

Junior Deanna Peiffer is off to a strong start as well. She has the fourth lowest nine hole average in Class 4A, posting a nine-hole median score of 43.75 strokes through four competitions.

Senior Sarah Waitie finds herself among the top 20 golfers in Class 4A in nine hole median score, recording a 46.75 stroke average.

The Demon girls’ golf team returns to the course this afternoon, participating in a quadrangular against Iowa City Regina, Tipton, and Iowa City West. The meet tees off at 3:15 p.m. at the Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville.
