Looking to build off their first victory of the season, the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (1-5 overall; 1-2 Southeast) returns to the pitch this afternoon against a conference adversary. The Mount Pleasant Panthers (3-3 overall; 1-2 Southeast) are coming to Washington to renew their Southeast Conference rivalry with the Demons.

Washington ended two negative streaks last Thursday in Fort Madison. Six minutes into the game, senior Kayla Schindler scored her third goal of the season, giving Washington an early 1-0 advantage. The goal ended a scoring drought that lasted 218 minutes over two and a half games. The Demons prevailed over the Bloodhounds 2-1, ending Washington’s five game losing streak to open the season.

Mount Pleasant’s season has been up and down through the first six games. The Panthers are 3-3 and are coming off of a 5-0 shutout loss to the Holy Trinity Crusaders. Junior Lauren Ralls leads Mount Pleasant with four goals this season.

Mount Pleasant swept the season series last year, outscoring Washington 6-2 in two meetings.

The Southeast Conference girls’ soccer clash between Washington and Mount Pleasant kicks off at 4:30 p.m. at Washington High School.
