Getting their first taste of competition in over two weeks, the Washington Demon girls track team traveled to Pella Saturday to compete in the 2015 Central College High School Girls Track and Field Meet.
Senior sprinter Macy Marek had a stellar showing, finishing the 55 meter dash in third place with a time of 7.60 seconds. She also ran the 200 meter dash in 27.35 seconds, the fifth best time in the competition and was apart of the Demons’ 4×200 meter dash team that took eighth place with a time of 1:58.20. The other girls’ apart of the 4×200 meter relay team included: sophomore Jessie Buchholz, junior Emma Wood, and junior Morgan Kimball.
A few underclassmen had a good showings at the meet. Macy’s younger sister, sophomore Makenzi Marek performed well in the long jump competition, finishing in eighth place with a jump of 14 feet 4 1/2 inches. Freshman Kayla Andrew finished 11th in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:07.55.
As a team, the Demons finished the meet in 13th place with 11.5 points, a half-point behind Carlisle for 12th place. The Mount Pleasant Panthers took home the team championship with 70.5 points.
