The use of alcohol by high school students has decreased in recent years, according to results from the 2014 Iowa Youth Survey State Report released by the Iowa Department of Public Health. In the 2014 survey, 14 percent of 11th graders said they ‘drank beer in the past 30 days,’ down from the 19 percent in 2012.

A new question was added to this year’s survey regarding the use of e-cigarettes during the past 30 days with usage rates of 3 percent of sixth graders, 4 percent of eighth graders, and 11 percent of eleventh graders.
