The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s State Climatology Office and the National Weather Service are looking for volunteers across the state for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. Volunteers need a four inch diameter rain gauge and a suitable location to set up the gauge, as well as internet access. The data collected through the network is then used for flood forecasting, drought assessment, scientific research and general weather interest.
The network started by the Colorado Climate Center in 1998 is now in all 50 states; Iowa joined in 2007 and has over 300 registered observers. For more information and, or to sign up click here.
