WACO Community School’s newest spring sports team will begin their first season next month. The WACO Shooting Sports teams will embark on their inaugural season starting in April, with 25 student athletes expected to compete in the Iowa High School and Scholastic Clay Target Program’s trap shooting season.
Trapshooting is a form of clay target shooting and requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break 4 1/4 inch discs which are hurled through the air at a speeds over 40 miles hour.
WACO Shooting Sports head coach Tom McNamar says when using firearm’s for sport, safety is the number one guideline. “One of the coolest things about shooting sports is that it is actually the safest activities any young person can be involved in.” McNamar said, “There is so little injury involvement in shooting sports because we do take safety very seriously.”
