A school administrator originally from Washington County will be honored by the Iowa High School Athletic Association next weekend. Cletus Miller is one of six individuals that will be receiving an Administrator Award being presented at halftime of the Class 3A Basketball Championship next Saturday.
Miller grew up near Kalona and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Northern Colorado University and his Master’s from Creighton, he went on to work in Colorado, then came back to Iowa to serve as elementary and junior high principal at Tri-Center in Neola in 1966. He served as superintendent at Prairie City for 17 years after that, and finished his career at South Tama Community School as an assistant superintendent.
During his career, Miller has served as a football and baseball coach, and has only missed one year of attending the boys state basketball tournament.
