The coaches, parents, and players of this year’s Washington Demon girls’ basketball team met one final time Sunday evening to celebrate the accomplishments of their recent season.
The annual banquet, held inside the commons at Washington High School, included recognition of individual most valuable players (MVP), letter winners, and academic honors.
The overall team MVP went to junior forward Addie Pacha, who was the only Demon player this with more than 100 points and rebounds. Junior guard Amber Salow was named the team’s offensive MVP; she scored a team-high 177 points this season. The defensive MVP went to junior guard Morgan Kimball, who led Washington with 48 steals. The final individual award given out was the Demon award, also known as the coaches award, was presented to senior Sydney Hoffman.
Fifteen basketball players were given varsity letters including: Pacha, Salow, Kimball, Hoffman, senior Dylan Schluetter, senior MaKenna Goodwin, senior Macey Marek, senior Addison Gaal, junior Brynna DeLong, junior Samantha Landstrum, junior McKayla Miller, sophomore Lexi Redlinger, freshman Sarah Nacos, freshman Morgan Brinning, and freshman Brooke Stout.
Twenty-one of the team’s 22 players and student managers received academic honors from the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union, while 10 Demons’ were recognized on the all-conference academic team. The All-Conference Academic Team is only open to juniors and seniors, and both distinctions recognized students with a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
The freshman/sophomore team and the junior varsity squad combined to go 24-4 this season, while the varsity lineup finished the year with a 6-16 overall record.
