The overall cost for service agreements between the seven cities in Washington County and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office increased. The increase is $6,359, up to $225,020 total for Fiscal Year 2016 from last year’s $218,661. At this week’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, the seven contracts for law enforcement were approved by the board.
Each of the seven cities is charged a different rate based on a set formula, which factors the percent of assessed value, the percent of calls and the percent of population. The most expensive contract is with Kalona for $79,724.
The City of Washington does not have a contract, as it has its own police department.
