The office of the Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced this week that the Iowa Voter Registration Commission adopted a rule allowing eligible voters who have a valid driver’s license or state ID to apply for voter registration online. This represents 93 percent of Iowa’s eligible voters. According to the announcement, the system is scheduled to be in place by early 2016. Pate stated voter participation starts with increased access to voter registration. The goal is to expand the opportunity to register to vote in the future. The voter registration application will be hosted on both the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Secretary of State website.
