Two KCII area boys’ basketball teams renew their non-conference rivalry this evening at Hillcrest Union in Kalona. Coming up tonight on AM and FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Washington Demons (1-5 overall; 0-1 Southeast) will tip off against the Iowa Mennonite School (5-2 overall; 5-2 SEISC North).

The Demons are back on the court for the first time since their 51-31 loss to the Marion Indians at Washington High School a dozen days ago. Junior guard Derek Anding heads into the second half of the season as the Demons’ top scorer. Anding is averaging 14.5 points per game this season, and hasn’t scored fewer than 11 points in the Washington’s first six games. Senior forward Daryn Sebelius has grabbed a team-leading 39 rebounds through the first six games of the season.

The Iowa Mennonite School boys’ team returns to the court for the first time since defeating the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves 48-40 on Dec 20. The victory was the 600th career victory for head coach Dwight Gingerich. Coach Gingerich’s son, sophomore guard Eli Gingerich, leads IMS in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game in the first seven games of the season. Senior forward Payton Miller grabbed a team-leading 46 rebounds this season.
