Riverside is preparing to sell one of the trucks the volunteer fire department is retiring. The Riverside Fire Department is ordering a new ladder truck to replace the one being sold. The department is attempting to pay for the $725,000 truck in full, which would cut the cost by nearly $33,000.
To help pay off the truck immediately, the Riverside City Council has approved the release of $100,000 from fiscal year 2016 that is already budgeted for the new truck. This is in addition to the $100,000 the city set aside in the current fiscal year and fiscal year 2014.
The fire department will use a $125,000 Washington County Riverboat grant, proceeds from the sale of the retired truck and money from the Riverside Fire District to cover the rest of the cost.
