Progress is continuing on abating nuisances in the City of Washington. Building and Zoning Official Steve Donnolly explained at the recent city council meeting that all of the August and September complaints are closed. The city has added Merle Hagie as a part-time code enforcer. Hagie explained some properties are being observed, which means property owners have not been contacted yet but the city is watching to see if the problem is cleared up on its own, such as a complaint on a dumpster which may be used for construction at the site.
According to the recorded complaints, there were 25 nuisances in October, with 12 still open. The cases vary from trash and tall weeds to furniture in the yard.
