The Washington Demon volleyball team returned to the court Tuesday evening.
The 5-20 Demons welcomed their Southeast Conference competitor in the 15-12 Fairfield Trojans. This was the second time these two have matched up on the court this season with Washington falling in straight sets (12-25, 15-25, 12-25). After a sluggish start, the Demons picked up the intensity in games two and three. However, the effort wasn’t enough to keep Washington from dropping the match in straight sets (13-25, 24-26, 22-25). Washington head volleyball coach Julliana Berg discussed with her team cleaning up their mistakes between game one and game two.
“We just talked about unforced errors and how many were just us giving them points.” Berg said, ” 13 unforced errors, you can’t win a game like that. and i think that was the number we roughly stated (in game one). That doesn’t include the number of communication errors or the balls we hit into the net and couldn’t recover.”
Despite the loss, Berg say the team gained confidence their matchup later this week with another conference opponent.
“Going into the locker room and talking to them after this match and they say “guys we can go down there and get Keokuk”” Berg said, “They are going to walk out of here with their heads held high and feeling they played pretty well.”
The loss drops Washington to 5-21 overall on the season. They will be back on the court Thursday evening against the Keokuk Chiefs at Keokuk High School.
