With a sprained ankle keeping her out of last week’s meet at Mount Pleasant, Washington junior Emme Keith returned in top form Tuesday at the Demons’ home meet.

The hills at the Washington Golf and Country club didn’t affect Keith as she finished with a team best time of 16:35, finishing seventh overall in the meet. Keith says she was pleased with her performance.

“Since last year’s meet I cut a minute. And just this year, I cut off 45 seconds of my best time.” Keith said, “Coming back from a sprained ankle and not running the meet before this one, I am pretty proud of my time.”

The meet would prove to be a good one for the Demon girls’ team, with six runners finishing in the top 20 in the Washington Invitational. Fort Madison would win the team title with 26 points. Fairfield finished second with 37 points, followed by Washington with 98.

In the boys’ meet, Highland senior Evan Mahler and junior Keiffer Sexton finished as the top two runners. For Washington, it was another close finish between sophomore Owen Horak and senior Curtis Vest. For a second straight week, Horak finished as the Demons’ top runner with a time of 19:02. Vest came in just six seconds behind him. Overall, the duo finished 12th and 13th respectively in the meet. Fairfield won the team title with 27 points. Highland finished second with 69, followed by Fairfield with 98, Washington with 115, and Sigourney with 124.
