ATVs, or all terrain vehicles, are one step closer to being permitted on City of Washington streets. Last night the city council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the use of ATVs. With the new ordinance operators will be able to use city streets to drive ATVs to get to the country.
Councilman Bob Shepherd stated the point of the ordinance is for the four-wheelers to be able to get to the county where they can recreate. City Administrator Brent Hinson added ATVs are not to be used similar to golf carts, which can be used instead of cars.
Also, there is a list of restricted streets including Iowa Avenue and North Second Avenue, as well as all state highways. The second reading will be held at the next council meeting.
