Elijah Wood blanked the Chiefs on the score sheet last night, going all seven innings and allowing no-hits in a 4-0 Demon win.
Wood fanned 10, while walking just one to miss the perfect game, but with hits up and down the lineup, the Demons made it easier on Wood to get his no-no in game one.
Demon head coach Nathan Miller says his younger guys are starting to see the ball better, which is leading to hits from one through nine in the lineup.
“You hope about this time that kids are starting to see the ball better. I mean we’re now around 50 at-bats on the season, and that is usually what if you ask any ‘big leaguer’ how many at-bats it takes them to feel comfortable, and most all of them will tell you it is between 50 and 60 at-bats. So, we’re finally hitting that spot where some guys are getting comfortable, the game is slowing down for some guys, they are starting to read the ball out of the hand, whether it is a curve ball or a fastball,” Miller said.
Washington then had a suspended game in game two, with the Demons down five after a rocky first inning, Washington will be due up in the top of the second when they finished out game two.
The Demons play Danville tomorrow night for a single game at home.
